Uploading Prescription Files to the Raven Viper 4+

prescriptiondata-transfersetup

Overview

The Raven Viper 4+ utilizes the Raven Operating Software (ROS) to manage variable rate application (VRA) through imported prescription files. This process involves preparing prescription shapefiles on a USB drive, importing them into the display's internal memory via the File Manager, and assigning the maps to specific product control channels for automated in-field execution.

What You'll Need

  • Raven Viper 4 or Viper 4+ Display
  • USB flash drive formatted as FAT32 (32 GB maximum capacity recommended)
  • Prescription files in ESRI Shapefile format (including .shp, .shx, and .dbf components)
  • Spatial data exported using the WGS84 Datum to ensure map alignment
  • Feature unlock for VRA or Multi-VRA (if applying multiple products)

Step-by-Step

01

Prepare the USB Drive

On your computer, ensure the prescription shapefile components (.shp, .shx, and .dbf) are unzipped and share the exact same filename. While the Viper 4 can search the entire drive, it is recommended to place them in a folder hierarchy: Raven/GFF/Grower/Farm/Field/RxMaps to facilitate organized data management.

02

Access the File Manager

Insert the prepared USB drive into the monitor. Expand the Admin or User Panel at the top of the main screen and select the File Manager utility, which serves as the central hub for all data transfers.

03

Navigate to the USB Manager

Select the USB Import Manager tab, indicated by a USB stick icon. Choose your USB drive from the source drop-down menu on the left side of the screen.

04

Filter and Select Prescription Maps

Touch the file type filter drop-down and select Rx Maps. This allows the display to scan the drive specifically for compatible prescription files. Use the file browser to locate your folder and highlight the desired prescription files.

05

Transfer to Internal Memory

Select the Copy operation to move the files from the USB drive to the Viper internal memory. A confirmation screen will appear; select the green check mark to finalize the import. Once complete, you may remove the USB drive.

06

Start a Job and Select Field

Return to the home screen and select Start Job. Choose the appropriate Grower, Farm, and Field associated with the prescription data. The display will load the field information and proceed to the Job Setup screen.

07

Assign Prescription to Product

Locate the Product Assignment or Tank Assignment section on the Job Setup screen. Touch the Prescription (Rx) icon next to the desired product control channel to open the selection list.

08

Configure Rate Attributes

Select your imported prescription map from the list. Define the Rate Column from the shapefile attributes and verify that the application units match your intended plan. Ensure an Out of Field rate is set to maintain control if the vehicle leaves the mapped zone.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Tips & Tricks

💡

Set a Look Ahead time (typically 1.0 to 2.5 seconds) in the Rate Control settings to compensate for the mechanical response delay of the application system.

💡

Avoid using special characters like pound, percent, or ampersand in filenames to prevent operating system errors during import.

💡

If the vehicle is equipped with a Slingshot Field Hub, prescriptions can be synced wirelessly from the Slingshot portal, bypassing the need for a USB drive.

💡

Perform regular file maintenance in the File Manager to delete old jobs and archived data, keeping the 30 GB internal storage from becoming full.
