job-managementguidanceseeder

Overview

For seeder operators, accurate guidance and proper job initialization are critical for maintaining uniform row spacing and preventing overlaps. This guide focuses on the workflow for starting a seeding job, loading field-specific guidance lines, and utilizing section status widgets to monitor the performance of your air cart clutches or drive motors.

What You'll Need

  • Raven Viper 4 or Viper 4+ Display
  • Established Grower, Farm, and Field structure
  • Pre-recorded or imported AB guidance lines
  • Active machine and product configurations for seeding

Step-by-Step

01

Initiate the Seeding Job

Touch the Job Profile panel at the bottom of the home screen and select Start Job. Confirm that the Grower, Farm, and Field assignments are correct for the current field to ensure data is recorded in the right location.

02

Configure Guidance and Scout Groups

In the Job Setup screen, use the Guidance drop-down to select your preferred seeding pattern or a saved AB line. Use the Scout drop-down to load the field boundary, which is necessary for automated section control.

03

Verify Tank and Product Assignment

Review the Product Assignment section to ensure each active bin on your air cart is assigned the correct seed variety or fertilizer mix. Verify that your target rates are set according to your agronomist's prescription or your manual plan.

04

Enter the Run Screen

Touch the green Start button to begin the job. The monitor will transition to the run screen where you will see your vehicle position, the field boundary, and your guidance path.

05

Activate Guidance Lines

Press and hold the guidance widget on the run screen. Select the Load tab and filter by your current field to find your saved AB lines. Select the desired line, which will turn green, and confirm with the check mark.

06

Monitor Section Status

Observe the Section Status widget to verify that your air cart clutches or drive sections are turning on and off correctly. If using automated section control, the sections should change color as they enter or exit previously applied areas.

07

Verify Placement in the Field

After making a partial pass, it is recommended to stop and dig to verify actual seed placement and spacing against what is displayed on the monitor. Adjust your implement offsets or look-ahead times if the physical placement does not match the map.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Tips & Tricks

💡

Creating specific Job Profiles for each field can save time by automatically loading your preferred guidance lines and scouting groups every season.

💡

Use the Last Pass guidance mode if you are infilling irregular areas where a straight AB line is not practical.

💡

Always properly close the job before shutting down the tractor to ensure all seeding reports and coverage maps are saved correctly.

💡

If your cart has multi-product VRA capabilities, verify that the green Rx symbol is visible next to each target rate on your run screen.
