Seeder Tank Assignment and Product Setup for the Raven Viper 4+
Overview
For seeder operators, properly defining tank assignments and product configurations is essential for accurate multi-product application. The Raven Viper 4+ allows you to save these settings as profiles, which link specific seed varieties or fertilizers to individual control channels on your air cart, ensuring that each tank applies the correct product at the intended rate.
What You'll Need
- Raven Viper 4 or Viper 4+ Display
- Connected CANbus or ISOBUS air cart nodes
- OmniSeed or compatible product control system
- Pre-established machine configuration for the tractor and air cart
Step-by-Step
Access the Product Configuration Panel
From the main home screen, touch the Product Configuration panel. If a profile for your current air cart tank mix is not already active, touch the Add button on the left to create a new configuration.
Name the Seeding Configuration
Enter a descriptive name for the operation, such as the specific crop and fertilizer blend being used. This name will help you quickly identify the correct setup when switching fields or crops.
Assign Products to Control Channels
The setup screen will display available channels for your air cart, such as PR1, PR2, and PR3. Select a channel to assign a product name. You can use the built-in agX database or select from your Favorite Products list for faster entry.
Configure Seed Varieties
For tanks dedicated to seeding, enter the specific seed variety and brand. You can assign different varieties to different tanks if you are conducting multi-variety trials or applying a companion crop.
Define Rate Units and Form
Verify that the application units are correct for each tank, such as pounds per acre or seeds per acre. Select the product form, typically granular for air carts, to ensure the control logic matches the physical metering system.
Initialize Tank Manager
Touch the Tank Manager button to enter the current volume or weight of product in each bin. You can use the Refill button to quickly reset a tank to its full capacity after loading product in the field.
Verify and Save
Review the assignments to ensure the correct products are matched to the corresponding bins on your cart. Exit the setup to save the configuration, making it available for selection when starting a new job.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Tips & Tricks
Use the built-in mix calculator if you are blending granular products in a single tank to determine accurate application ratios.
Setting up low tank level alarms in your user profile can prevent running out of product in the middle of a pass.
For air carts with remote tank consoles, you can perform meter calibrations directly at the cart without returning to the tractor cab.
Always perform a calibration run or catch test when switching seed sizes or types to ensure the meter constant is accurate.
